In November 2007, AREVA and MHI officially created a joint venture named ATMEA, with the mission of designing, developing, marketing, building and commissioning a generation III+ nuclear reactor delivering the best in nuclear safety, cost optimization and environmental protection: the ATMEA1 reactor. Using experience, expertise and resources of AREVA and MHI is a central tenet of ATMEA operational and managerial strategy.

The ATMEA1 reactor is the most advanced evolutionary medium-power pressurized water reactor which rounds out AREVA and MHI's portfolio of third-generation reactors, offering the highest standards of safety and reliability as the EPR and APWR.

The ATMEA1 reactor combines reliable and proven nuclear technologies from AREVA and MHI which have more than 40 years of cumulative experience in designing and constructing nuclear power plants to offer their customers unrivaled technical expertise. It is equipped with built-in post-Fukushima protection. A high thermal efficiency and a flexible 12-to-24-month operation cycle length with less fuel cost bring superior operating performance, as well as less waste and less impact on the environment. This reactor is also designed for site flexibility and can accommodate various grid conditions.

Products & Services: Operator Training System, Plant Simulation System

Western Services Corporation, WSC, headquartered in Frederick, Maryland, USA, is a global simulation company. WSC has its roots in the nuclear, fossil, combined cycle power plant operator high fidelity training simulators. WSC has also achieved significant growth in Simulation Assisted Engineering (SAE) based on the strength of its “engineering grade” simulation technology. Leading companies are now embedding WSC’s technology in their SAE processes to address the challenges of improving quality up-front and reducing complex engineering development and commissioning cycles.

WSC’s primary focus is the development and deployment of advanced 3KEYSOFTWARE® Simulation Technology, which consists of the 3KEYMASTER™ simulation platform with its suite of graphical modeling tools. Reactor modeling through 3KEYRELAP5-RT™, an adaptation of Idaho National Laboratory thermal-hydraulics and neutronics models. WSC has also complemented the products to include 3KEYSAA™ applying severe accident codes to training simulators and 3KEYSTUDENT™, which brings state-of-the-art simulator training to a student’s PC anywhere in the world via the Internet.
